Topic: Self-Determination: What does this mean? How do I balance my life's dreams with realistic and achievable goals? (In English)

Jessica Jonikas, M.A., National Research and Training Center (NRTC), Managing Director

Jessica Jonikas is the Managing Director of the University of Illinois at Chicago, National Research and Training Center on Psychiatric Disability, and holds a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Chicago. For over two decades, she has presented the Center’s work to clinicians, researchers, and policy makers at national conferences and trainings. In addition, she has co-authored journal articles, book chapters, and training guides on community-based models of care. An expert on person-centered planning and shared decision-making, she was chosen by the federal Center for Mental Health Services to prepare a national briefing and sit on committees regarding those topics. She has also organized 3 highly successful and pioneering national conferences on self-determination and self-directed care in mental health. She is Co-Investigator on a project to implement and evaluate self-directed care for people receiving public mental health services in Texas.
