Presenter Biographical Information Janet Paleo has fought the symptoms of mental illness since before the age of five. Her road to recovery was long and painful but she learned two things: 1) Sometimes the people who are supposed to help you are the very people that keep you from recovery, and; 2) Barriers are only barriers if you accept them. Janet has worked at the local, state, national and international levels. She is a past board member of the World Federation for Mental Health, NAMI in Texas, and served as the NAMI National Consumer Council Chair. She is an invited speaker to many local colleges and was a guest speaker in the first Asian Pacific Mental Health Conference held in Taiwan. As an invited speaker to the Texas Bar Association for a conference on mental health law, Janet was the only non-attorney who presented and spoke. She runs the Prosumer group and puts out a monthly newsletter. Janet is working with the County Mental Health Centers in Houston and San Antonio and is helping to develop Peer Navigator positions utilizing the Salutogenic Model. Contacted by a mental health magazine in Japan, Janet wrote an article about recovery that will be published in November. She is also a concert producer, a published song writer, a photographer, an artist, an inventor, a webmaster, and author. Her mission in life is to help others identify and obtain their vision of recovery.
