American Indian & Alaskan Native Perspectives on Recovery and Wellness

This call will provide insights from two leaders in the American Indian and Alaskan Native communities on wellness and recovery that have successfully reached out to serve diverse communities and provide pointers to resources for further information.

Teleconference Speakers:

  • Delmar Boni is a Native American Indian, Apache Tribe. Mr. Boni monitors and evaluates 43 tribal programs, providing training for counselor certification, and travels for onsite intervention into homelands of various tribes in Arizona, Nevada and Utah.
  • Augusta Reimer is a native Alaskan born in Nome, Alaska. She has lived in Anchorage, Alaska since 1946. For twenty years Mrs. Reimer has worked at the Alaska Native Health Service as an Equal Employment Opportunity Specialist, Director of Patient Education Services, Diabetes Educator and as a Traditional Healing Coordinator. Mrs. Reimer established the first traditional healing program for Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC). Mrs. Reimer has also conducted native culture awareness training for new employees at ANMC. Mrs. Reimer has been with NAMI Alaska since 1998 where she is responsible for planning and organizing leadership training for adults with mental illness in rural Alaska. Mrs. Reimer is a grandmother of 4 and is very involved with traditional healing activities around the Anchorage area.
